ABOUT

Sculptor Brigitte Comte works in Penmarc'h in a studio near the ocean. Outside, so many sparkles... vivid, moving, aquatic, and aerial. At her home, the sculptures are illuminated by other lights. Diffused, concentrated, reflected... all change depending on the nature of the stones. The first surprise is discovering the strength of their presence. Marble, granite, limestone, gypsum, soapstone, onyx, serpentine, alabaster... all the stones carry within them a piece of the world laid bare, an earthly landscape finding its place in an interior. Before these works, I seem to understand how sculpting is a close encounter with a living material. A material that continues to live once the sculpture is completed.
